DITO Extends Support to Typhoon Kristine Victims. DITO Telecommunity, the Philippines newest major telecommunications provider, has stepped up to support communities affected by Typhoon Kristine. With a commitment to aiding those in need, DITO collaborated with local government units and academic institutions to deliver technological and financial assistance to the most affected areas.
Support in Naga City
In the typhoon-stricken city of Naga, DITO provided critical communication support, ensuring that emergency response teams and affected residents remained connected. The company distributed mobile phones equipped with SIM cards and prepaid load for call line operators managing relief efforts. Additionally, DITO deployed booths offering free calls, WiFi access, and charging stations in Barangay Dayangdang, Lerma, and Triangulo.
Recognizing the importance of robust communication during disasters, DITO also conducted a rapid speed and network assessment, optimizing connectivity in the area. These efforts enabled seamless communication among emergency teams and families, ensuring efficient coordination and support for those in need.
“In times of crisis, connectivity is essential for emergency response and for families to stay connected with their loved ones,” said Evelyn Jimenez, DITO’s Chief Revenue Officer for Consumer Business. “We hope these efforts provided some comfort and relief to the community as they rebuild their lives.”
Empowering Youth Through Galing DITO CampX
As part of its commitment to community development, DITO’s Galing DITO CampX program visited Batangas State University (BSU). This school caravan initiative aims to engage and empower students through interactive experiences that showcase DITO digital services.
The event featured a lively school concert headlined by Galing DITO ambassadors and popular Pinoy pop boy group Alamat. Concert ticket sales raised ₱250,000, which was donated to BSU’s fundraising campaign, PB is UNITED, PB is ONE for Batangas. This initiative provided essential relief supplies, temporary shelters, food packs, and resources for rebuilding efforts.
BSU’s Student Council President, Ran Drick Kenneth Umali, expressed gratitude for DITO’s support. “The typhoon caused widespread devastation, but the bayanihan spirit, especially among students, shone brightly. DITO’s contribution uplifted morale and provided essential relief for those in need.”
Part of the proceeds also went toward the construction of a Multi-Faith Chapel on campus, fostering unity and reflection for students and faculty alike.
Expanding Relief Efforts Across the Philippines
DITO Galing DITO CampX program didn’t stop at Batangas. The initiative extended to other schools, including Ateneo de Davao University, where students were treated to entertainment and hands-on exposure to DITO’s prepaid, postpaid, and home internet services.
